Claudius Makumbe died at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) after a boiler he was operating at the Drive Shaft Centre just behind OK Mart in Bulawayo, exploded and ripped his stomach open. His pelvic parts and most of his private parts were severely damaged.
His father Claud said Drive Shaft Centre had provided everything for his son’s funeral, including food, the coffin and transport for mourners.
The senior Makumbe said post mortem results revealed that Claudius died due to severe injuries he sustained in the explosion.
“For now we are not blaming anyone because we do not know what happened. We don’t know whether there was negligence or not,” he said.
He said the family had left everything to the National Social Security Authority to conduct its investigations.
The cylinder which smashed Makumbe weighed about 10kg and it damaged the roof of the workshop where he was working.
