Tapuwa Mlotshwa (43) of Mabhachi village under Chief Bvute appeared before Mberengwa magistrate Christopher Maturure for allegedly raping the girl, who was looking for her father’s lost goats. He was remanded in custody to September 8 at the Gweru Regional Court.

It was the State’s case that on August 23 at around 7pm, the juvenile was looking for her father’s goats in a grazing field when she came across Mlotshwa.

He asked her why she was out all alone in the dark and the girl informed him about the lost goats.

Mlotshwa offered to assist the girl in looking for the goats and promised to escort her home when they found them.

He instructed the girl to lead the way and then allegedly grabbed and tripped her to the ground before raping her once.

Mlotshwa threatened the girl with unspecified action before disappearing into the dark.

The girl went home and informed her grandmother. Her granny informed some villagers, who reported their headman at the Bvute Police Base, leading to Mlotshwa’s arrest.
