The Honda Fit driver Talent Tanongwa and another passenger were treated for shock by an ambulance crew at the scene and later ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital for further checks. Tanongwa said he saw a vehicle that kept changing lanes while a Zesa bus followed behind.
The bus driver decided to overtake the vehicle close to the Honda Fit and Tanongwa said in the process of trying to avoid a head-on collision with the bus, he lost control of the car and it overturned in the nearby fields.
“I saw a bus coming onto my lane and l tried to avoid an accident, but in the process l found myself here (in the fields),” said Tanongwa.
“I had two passengers in the car going to Emganwini; the other one just came out of the wreckage and walked away.”
An eyewitness, Saziso Sithole, said the Honda veered off the road and overturned after avoiding a head-on collision with the bus.
“I saw a Honda Fit veering off the road and overturning after avoiding the Zesa bus,” Sithole said.
