A ZVISHAVANE teenager is in trouble for allegedly fondling his pregnant ex-girlfriend who latter suffered a misacarriage.
ALLIEWAY NYONI OWN CORRESPONDENT Jones Mahlokozela (19) of Makwasha high-density suburb appeared in the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of indecent assault before public prosecutor Monica Mungwena altered it to assault following a medical report presented to the court. He was remanded in custody to September 4.
The State alleged that on August 22, Mahlokozela was drinking beer at the Dashly complex in Mandava when he saw his ex-girlfriend Tinotenda Mbereko (22) passing by.
He went to Mbereko and forcibly hugged her and then poked her bulging tummy accusing her of dumping him. Mbereko told Mahlokozela that she was now a married woman and he was hurting her by poking her tummy, but he allegedly continued prodding her.
His friends then pulled him away and Mbereko proceeded with her journey. A few days, the State said Mbereko discovered that her unborn baby was no longer making any movements and she informed her husband what Mahlokozela had done to her.
She then made a report to the police, leading to Mahlokozela’s arrest.
A medical report presented in court suggested that the unborn baby could have been harmed during the time that Mahlokozela forcefully prodded her tummy.
The prosecutor said they were now waiting for a scan to try and establish whether the unborn baby died as a result of Mahlokozela’s actions.
