NBSZ Matabeleland public relations officer Sifundo Ngwenya said although they had targeted 300 units, they were happy to have collected some blood.
“We had a target of collecting 300 units of blood and we are grateful to those who donated the blood as we managed to collect 214 units,” he said.
Ngwenya said similar exercises would be conducted in Tsholotsho, Plumtree and Gwanda.
He said the NBSZ would host blood donating events nationwide until January.
The NBSZ encouraged people to attend the events and donate blood to help save lives.
“We are still rolling in many units and we are trying to collect as much blood as possible for us to be at an adequate blood level supply for the festive season,” he said.

“We are still extending our invites to the public to continue supporting the blood donation exercises.
“We are encouraging people countrywide to donate blood so that we can keep the nation afloat.”
Ngwenya said people should be taught that donating blood was everyone’s responsibility.
He said, particularly during the festive season, there was an increase in accidents and this impacted on the country’s blood bank stocks.
“Accidents deeply impact the blood bank stocks, hence the need for people to donate blood so that it is available when it is needed,” he added.
