Vuyisile Lionel Madzingwe (28) was not asked to plead to robbery and rape charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Singandu Jele.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to January 16 for trial.

The court heard that on December 8 2014 at 11pm, the complainant — who stays in Sauerstown in Bulawayo — was soliciting for clients as a prostitute at corner Samuel Parirenyatwa Street and 11th Avenue, when she was approached by Madzingwe who was driving a Nissan Cedric vehicle.

Madzingwe then asked to take the woman with him and was charged $7. They drove along 12th Avenue Extension and out of town.

After they had gone past United Bulawayo Hospitals, Madzingwe allegedly parked the vehicle in the nearby bush and produced $5, saying he could not afford $7.

The woman took the money and the two had sex as per their agreement with protection.

It is the State case that after the encounter, Madzingwe changed his mood and demanded his money back.

The woman complied.

Madzingwe allegedly further demanded all the money the woman had, but she said she had no money.

The State alleges that Madzingwe reached underneath a seat in the vehicle and produced a tyre lock, which resembled a pistol and pointed it at the woman, threatening to shoot her if she did not surrender her money.

It is then that the woman allegedly gave him $26, but he was not convinced that she had produced all. He allegedly physically searched her, her bags and at the same time inserting his fingers in her private parts.

He reportedly did not find anything and he forced her to have sex with him three more times without her consent.

Madzingwe allegedly drove back into town with the woman and dropped her off.

The woman made a report to the police.

On December 30 2014 at 11pm, another complainant, Sukoluhle Ramonoana (33) of Greenhill in Bulawayo was at corner George Silundika and 11th Avenue, when Madzingwe, driving the same vehicle, approached her.

She charged Madzingwe $10 for a short encounter and they agreed.

Madzingwe allegedly advised her that he was taking her to his residence and they drove along 12th Avenue and past Bulawayo Polytechnic College before turning left to a secluded place, where he said he was no longer taking her home.

He said they would instead have sex in the car.

Madzingwe then asked if the woman had change for $20 note and she produced a $10 note and gave it to him.

The two had sex and after that Madzingwe drove with her.

They went past Girls’ College and again Madzingwe demanded his money back and slapped her once on the cheek.

The woman gave him $60 and Madzingwe allegedly drove with her and later parked somewhere along the way and demanded her mobile phone.

He also allegedly searched her and took a necklace, some bangles and sweets. He drove to Matsheumhlope where he dropped her. The woman then called a taxi and went to Bulawayo Central Police Station, where she made a report.

Madzingwe was arrested on December 31. The two women were called for an identification parade and they positively identified him on January 1 2015.
