In this modern age of diversity and competition, we are inundated with choices in whatever goods and products we purchase. It’s essentially a product of capitalism – vendors and entrepreneurs are all too keen to grab as much market share in their own fields. Take coffees for example – before there was just black coffee, or Americano. This branched out to include Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, and coffee chains today are adding their own twists to the drink, such as iced mochaccino and white-chocolate frappe. Wherever there’s a market, there are choices catered for our particular tastes and needs. Cars of course are no exception, and this article will look some of the most popular Toyota sedans in the Japanese used car market today.

COROLLA

Toyota Corolla is the king of all sedans. It has broken several records since it was first introduced in 1966. By 1974, it was the best-selling vehicle in the world, and by 1997, it was the best-selling name plate in the world. The Corolla reached a milestone in 2013 when it had sold 40 million units since introduction. What makes the Corolla so popular? It is affordable, economical, versatile, and reliable. It ticks many boxes, and it will most likely continue to keep its best-selling tag for many more years to come.

MARK II

Mark II was sold between 1968 and 2004. The main difference between the Mark II and the Corolla is that, Mark II is bigger both in dimensions and engine capacity. Corolla typically measures approximately 11 square meters, while Mark II measures 12 to 13 square meters. The engine capacity of Corolla is between 1.5 and 1.8L, while Mark II’s is between 2 and 2.5L. Buyers might choose Mark II over Corolla because Mark II is cheaper to buy. Corolla is more popular due to better fuel economy and wider circulation of spare parts. However, there are some who purposefully choose the Mark II for the larger size and more powerful engine. The other difference is that Mark II is rear-wheel-drive while Corolla is front-wheel-drive, so there is a marked difference in the driving experience.

MARK X

Mark X is the successor to Mark II. As Mark II was phased out in 2004, Mark X was phased in. Think of it as a beefed-up, luxury version of Mark II. While the dimensions are approximately the same, Mark X comes with bigger engines – either 2.5L or 3L, and many models are equipped with gratifying modern features such as back camera and HID lights.

ALLION and PREMIO

Think of the Allion as a sportier alternative to Corolla. The design of the body and the triangular-shaped headlights gives the Allion a distinct sporty and youthful feel.

The Premio is the upscale version of the Allion. The wooden paneling and silver embellishments in the interior give it an executive edge compared to the Allion.

There are of course many other Toyota sedans in the market such as Crown, Camry, Prius, and Avalon, but the above should have given you a good outline of some of the most popular Toyota sedans that are being imported from Japan today.

Don’t be afraid of importing Japanese used cars if you haven’t done it before. It’s actually quite simple, and you will be ok provided that you follow certain guidelines and common sense. Just make sure you buy from trusted exporting companies, and you’re aware of how much tax will be levied, as it is really quite high. Many companies now offer inland transportation services from the port directly to Zimbabwe, so importing is easier than ever before.

There are many true gems and bargains to be found, so choose carefully, and you will be driving away laughing!
