Simangaliso Muringi (47) of Emganwini who had sold the stand using an estate agent, was caught after she tried to sell the same stand twice.

Prosecutors said Benjamin Chinjekure, acting as estate agent, contacted Cecilia Ndlovu of Kenilworth subrub after he saw her advert in a local newspaper where she sought a housing stand in the eastern suburbs.

Ndlovu had indicated that she had $13 000.

Chinjekure told Ndlovu he had two stands for sale in Selbourne Park and Matsheumhlope respectively.

Ndlovu settled for the Matsheumhlope stand and on December 29 Chinjekure gave her the number for the tittle deeds saying he was selling the property on behalf of someone.

Ndlovu went on to verify the authenticity of the title deeds at the Deeds Office and the Bulawayo City Council.

Chinjekure took her to Cheda and Partners law firm where Muringi stood as the representative of the owner of the stand and was paid $12 600.

However, Ndlovu insisted on meeting the owners of the stand, but Muringi told her they were busy.

Muringi took a photocopy of the title deeds for the same stand and assigned Joseph Mugavazi to sell it.

Mugavazi flighted adverts in local newspapers on March 7 and 8 2015 seeking buyers for the stand.

A report was made to the police, leading to Muringi’s arrest.

It was established that the stand belonged to Arnold and Tendai Nanda who are based in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors said Ndlovu suffered a prejudice of $14 260 through the misrepresentation and nothing has been recovered.

Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashinga did not ask Muringi of Emganwini to plead to the fraud charges and gave her $100 bail.
