A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Cowdray Park suburb reportedly bashed his mother before hanging self at the family home after she declined to buy him a new pair of tackies. BY PRESTIGE GAMA
The deceased, Thubelihle Lunga, came home late from the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair on Saturday and demanded new pair of tackies, but his mother turned him down.
That did not go down well with Lunga and he reportedly assaulted his mother, Lisa Gumbo, by slapping her several times before banging the door on his way out.
“He assaulted me and left the house,” Gumbo said.
“I realised he was drunk hence I phoned his father and told him what had happened,” she added.
Lunga’s parents got shocked when they woke up the next morning to find their son hanging lifeless on a tree in front of their main door.
Lunga’s father refused to talk to the media threatening to “burn” anyone who was going to ask him about his son’s death.
“I don’t want to talk to any of the journalists here, otherwise I will burn you,” said the father.

However, Lunga’s friends said they last saw him on Saturday when they returned from the trade fair and he was reportedly drunk.
Patrick Muza said he took Lunga to his home because he was drunk and causing havoc on the streets.
“I placed him on his bed and left him sleeping before I went home,” Muza said.
