Moses Nyamapanzi (30) of Platinum Park in Zvishavane claims the consultant, Handsome Mbedzi of Glamour Freight Services, overcharged him for the services.

Mbedzi, however, denied the theft charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove last week.

He told the court that he gave Nyamapanzi all the invoices and proof of payment he had made to both the Zimbabwean and the South African immigration departments.

He said the invoices showed that $1 600 was used in the clearing of the machine, but the problem was that Nyamapanzi was not including the fees charged by the consultant, agencies and service fees that is why he thought he was cheated.

“He only considered the receipt he got from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority [Zimra], but not the one we obtained in South Africa, fees agencies, service fees we charged him and the containerisation fees. He is just ignoring all those receipts. He was supposed to consider all the money we charged him for assigning us,” Mbedzi said.

Prosecutor Simba Manyiwa told the court that sometime in August 2014, Nyamapanzi engaged Mbedzi to assist in clearing the equipment.

He allegedly deposited $4 755 which was paid in batches into Mbedzi’s bank account. On August 14, 2014, Mbedzi allegedly cleared the dental machine and was only charged $841,06 Value Added Tax charges by Zimra.

It is the State case that when he received the clearance documents for the machine, Mbedzi was supposed to return $3 744 after clearance charges.

Nyamapanzi approached Mbedzi who did not give a satisfactory answer and did not account for the balance.

He then reported the matter to the police, leading to Mbedzi ’s arrest.

The matter was remanded to today for continuation of trial.
