Patrick Chikukwa (65) of Tshabalala, who is employed by Shield Security Company appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Merilyn Mutshina on armed robbery charges.

He was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to October 19.

The court heard that last Thursday at around 1am, Chikukwa was in the company of his colleague Tongai Notice Moyo responding to alarms from Shield Security Company clients in Bulawayo.

Chikukwa and his colleague were driving along Siyephambili Drive heading towards Bellevue Shopping Centre when they met Shauna Dube (19), who was in the company of his friend Erick Mbeva.

Chikukwa offered the two transport. He and his colleague allegedly suddenly pulled out an FN pistol rifle and pointed at Dube and Mbeva demanding a container of opaque beer and cash.

Dube gave them $47 and the beer before Chikukwa got back into the vehicle and they drove away.

However, Dube managed to capture the number plate of the vehicle and the name of the security company and filed a police report.

When police officers went to the security company looking for Chikukwa, he emerged from one of the offices allegedly wielding the pistol.

The police officers fled the premises and sought back up.

Chikukwa was eventually arrested and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.
